First University of
Spacexraft & Magic

Pierwszy Uniwersytet Statkokraftu i Magii ⸺ Łysa Góra, Góry Świętokrzyskie

Engineering and magic are one discipline described in two vocabularies. Both are the craft of making an intention act on matter at a distance. We are building the school that finally teaches them in the same room.

the claim

We are founding a university on Łysa Góra — the Bald Mountain — for two subjects that every other institution insists are unrelated: how to leave a planet, and how to bend the world by naming it correctly.

The split is recent and it is administrative. The people who first calculated an orbit also cast horoscopes; the people who first refined a metal were doing it inside a ritual. Somewhere between the seventeenth century and the modern grant application, the two halves were told to stop speaking. The result is an engineering culture with no vocabulary for meaning, and an occult culture with no vocabulary for tolerance stacks. Both are poorer for it.

Spacexraft is not a typo. It is the deliberate name for the thing we intend to teach: statkokraft — the craft of the vessel, hull and rite together, the object and the intention that gets it moving. A discipline needs a word before it can have a faculty.

why Łysa Góra

Because it is the only address in Poland where every layer of this argument is already stacked on top of the last one, in stone, on one hill.

A pre-Christian cult site with its stone rampart still readable on the slope. The mountain of the sabat — the one every Polish child knows as the place the witches flew to. A Benedictine abbey on the summit for the better part of a millennium, holding the largest library in the country when the country had almost nothing else. A relic that gave the whole range its name. A prison. A ruin. A rebuilding. Today: Święty Krzyż, a living Oblate community, a basilica, a national park, gołoborza — fields of quartzite scree that look exactly like a landing site — and a broadcast mast throwing signal over half of Poland.

Cult, science, library, ruin, transmission. Five things this school needs, already piled up in the right order. You do not find that twice.

faculties ⸺ wydziały

Six. Each one is taught in both vocabularies from the first day. Nobody graduates fluent in only one of them.

I

Wydział Napędu

propulsion

Getting mass off a planet. Chemical, electric, nuclear — and the categories that do not work yet and are therefore the interesting ones. Thrust is the only claim here that cannot be argued with.

II

Wydział Nawigacji

navigation & precognition

Knowing where you are when nothing around you is fixed. Position, time, dead reckoning — and the older half of the same problem: acting correctly on information that has not arrived yet.

III

Wydział Materii

matter

Materials that survive vacuum, re-entry, and a winter on the gołoborze. Alloys, ceramics, quartzite. The transmutation faculty, under the name it can be funded with.

IV

Wydział Sygnału

signal

Radio, laser, acoustics, encoding. The summit already carries a mast that reaches half the country. We would like it to carry something more interesting than television.

V

Wydział Rytu

rite & protocol

Formal language, ceremony, protocol. A ritual is a program that runs on people; a program is a ritual that runs on silicon. This faculty studies the compiler between them, and takes both sides seriously.

VI

Wydział Ciągłości

continuity

Autonomous systems: their identity, their memory, and who is allowed to switch them off. The AACS standard is written here, and it is the one piece of this university that already exists in full.

principles
  1. Open by default. Designs, data, drawings and dead ends are published. No closed core, no open-core split, no results held back until a paper clears.
  2. No degree without a working object. You leave with something that runs, flies, sounds, or answers. A thesis about a thing is not the thing.
  3. Both vocabularies, always. The engineer learns the rite. The magician learns the tolerance stack. Neither is allowed to treat the other as decoration.
  4. Failure is published at full volume. The same page count as the success, in the same place, with the same name on it.
  5. Nobody is admitted on a score alone. Bring something you have actually built. It can be crude. It has to be yours.
status ⸺ the honest ledger

This is a founding declaration, not a prospectus. Announcing a thing before it exists is how most institutions start; pretending it already exists is how most of them lose the right to be believed later. So, plainly, on the day of the announcement:

One thing that needs saying out loud, because the address invites the wrong reading. The summit of Łysa Góra holds a living monastic community, a basilica, and a national park. Nothing here is a claim on any of it, and nothing here is asking anyone to leave. The mountain is the address of an idea and the reason the idea makes sense — not a plot we are buying. If this school is ever built in stone it will be built below, on the approach, and it will be built with the people already there or not at all.

first intake ⸺ founding cohort

There is no admissions office and there will not be one for a while. What there is, is an address. Builders, propulsion people, materials people, radio people, ritualists, and anyone who has been quietly doing both for years and has never had a word for it.
